Joan Kopchik

Joan Kopchik, a Bucks County papermaker and collage artist, creates contemporary mixed media wall pieces. The artist’s deep concern with image and surface are the source of her persuasive way of working. Ms. Kopchik’s articulate paste-ups and interwoven paper constructions stress the integration of layered surfaces and geometric images, often molding the paper surface towards expressive ends. Reeds and metal findings are applied to the burnished abstract surfaces of her pieces, which sometime resemble ancient stone.

Joan Kopchik received her BFA at Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, Pa. In addition to many national and international exhibitions, Ms. Kopchik’s work is included in the Rosenwald Collection at the National Gallery of Art, The James A. Mitchner Museum in Doylestown, Pa., and over a dozen private and corporate collections. Her work was featured on HGTV in 2001.
